Title: TorPM down-anyone know why or for how long?
Post by: joeblow2 on July 16, 2011, 10:39 pm
Someone sent me a message on SR that TorPM was down and when I tried to log on, I got the same message.

Does anyone know why and/or how long this usually lasts?  Does it happen often?

I've used it for a while now and never saw this before.  When you log on you get:

You have been logged out, or your session has expired. Please log in again. If problem persists, try enabling cookies (torbutton sanitizes them on toggle)

***I did search for any messages on this issue, but didn't find any.  Just FYI***

Consider Tor PM dead for the time being.

Is Tor PM how you communicate with sellers that have no PGP key?

Was looking to purchase from Toyota man who has great feedback but don't want my personal info sent without encrypting it. Is Tor PM how you guys communicate with sellers when there is no public key?

Hmmmm...that's hard to answer.

While I could definitely say "yes" because it's TorPM and judging by the username listing there's a lot of kiddie porn guys using it.
(I have a tendency to think that when LE wants to shut something down they always go for the kiddie porn guys first)

BUT...I would strongly advise against dealing with any vendor who doesn't/won't use PGP.

Think of it this way: if he won't make that effort...how much effort is he going to use in packaging?  Towards prompt delivery?  See my point? :)

Wow, I'm surprised to hear that.  I always kind of assumed (yeah, I know) that TorPM was being supported by one of the hosting dudes.

Does anyone actually support it?  Is there somebody who will work on fixing it?  Or ?????

thanks
(p.s. pls pls pls don't tell me it's maintained by one of the CP guys)

i personally have stop using torpm because there is no way of knowing who runs it. not too mention not long ago, many usernames were purged from the system with no explanation.

consider using the SILC chatroom for off site communications. SILC combined with OTR is a very secure way of communicating if both parties post their public keys in their SR profile.
